2017 Les Romains Rouge Magnum
This ruby red wine has the allure of a good Pomerol. Overwhelming scent of full and creamy fruit. The taste is compact velvety and gives a rich impression of optimally healthy grapes. Ripe juice with the finesse and refinement of a hint of oak. This majestic wine is pampered on the best quality French oak barriques and is made from the classic Bordeaux grape varieties merlot and cabernet sauvignon. The taste is richly concentrated with juicy fruit, friendly fresh acids and distinguished, velvety tannins and a rich and anointing complexity with an unprecedented long aftertaste. Already drank well and will continue to develop in the coming years.
The year 2016 in France was one of extremes. In Burgundy, Loire and Champagne, winemakers suffered from hail damage, frost and rot. The harvests were therefore very limited and the fruit less ripe. Other areas, such as Bordeaux, Rhône and Languedoc, experienced the opposite, with exceptionally good weather conditions. Les Romains can join the latter category, with an extraordinary harvest year. The wines are very ripe, well structured and have storage potential. The man behind the wines of Les Romains is Nicolas Ramond. This talented and passionate wine master maintains the vineyards meticulously and knows how to achieve optimum vine health. Drink this wine with roasted meat, game dishes or old cheeses.
The wine was also assessed by the Perwsijn tasting panel in May 2017: "... the wine does not deny its warm southern terroir. You smell the south and the sea, with herbs, thyme, garrigue, plums; it is firm in the mouth juicy, intense, with good acids and tannin. "
