Fertuna is located in the very south of Tuscany in the Maremma. The Fertuna winery is owned by wine merchant Giuseppe Meregalli from Monza. He earned his money with the worldwide distribution of the wines of Sassicaia (Tenuta San Guido). San Guido's owner, the Marquis Incisa della Rocchetta, even lent him a hand at the start, revealing some of his winemaking secrets. The Marquis now even signs for 2 wines from this domain, namely the red wine Pactio and the white wine Droppello. The company is under the expert leadership of Paolo Rivella, scion of another great winemaking family in Italy. His uncle is Enzio Rivella and was the founder of some great Tuscan estates such as Banfi and is still regarded as one of the leading figures in the Italian wine world.

The domain is located on the Roman Via Aurelia Gavorrano and lies between Grosseto and Folonica. In addition to the classic Sangiovese, international varieties such as Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon are also planted here. Remarkable is the Droppello, a white wine made from the Sangiovese grape!

Fertuna is a discovery with its own style, halfway between the elegance of the great Chiantis and the sultry, tinged Bordeaux wines of Bolgheri.

The Messiio is the top model of Fertuna and is a 100% Merlot, so a Super Tuscan rightfully so. Deep dark red full wine with lots of red fruit and hints of pepper, spicey and coffee. Nicely balanced with a nice structure. Wonderfully soft and warm with nice tannins. Very long delicious aftertaste. 12 months aging in oak barrels, followed by a further 6 months aging in the bottle. This medium bodied wine has a good balance between fruit and acidity and is silky smooth with a long aftertaste/sense of freshness which keeps the wine lively in the mouth and is gastronomically a great wine with pasta dishes or a good (homemade) pizza.

WINEMAKER NOTES: Opulent but not self-complacent, intense and rich, of incredible persistence and long potential… a GREAT SUPER TUSCAN!!
