Domaines Paul Mas was founded in 1892. The current owner is Jean-Claude Mas and this is undoubtedly the pioneer in the field of the revival of the Languedoc as a region for quality wines. Jean-Claude characterizes his wines as 'Le Luxe Rural', rural luxury. With international grape varieties, he has given the Languedoc 'new world' allure. And with his fashionable wines from local grapes, he has made the local character of the Languedoc hip again for wine lovers. Hubrecht Duijker rightly calls Jean-Claude Mas a 'wine wizard' and at Grandcruwijnen we are the only ones in the Netherlands who also carry Paul Mas 's high end Grandcrus .
The Astélia 'Clos Astelia is a blend of the grapes: Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah coming from a single vineyard, with a bottom of clay and clay. The sticks are 25-30 years old. The grapes are first stalked and then vinified separately. The fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature of 24-28 degrees and is followed by a peeling soak of 25 days. 30% of the wine is aged in American oak and 70% in French oak, both new and used.
In the glass, the Clos Astelia by Domaines Paul Mas is intensely ruby red. In the nose fresh tones of ripe, black currants, spices and vanilla. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, fine tannins, ripe blackberries and black currants, spices and chocolate. All in all, this is a very inviting elegant but also complex wine. With every snif and gulp you will discover new scents and tastes. The Clos Astelia is delicious with grilled meat or roasted duck breast.
The Clos Astellia is one of the Cru wines coming from the top range of Domaines Paul Mas and even then these wines excel at a great price / quality. In addition to the content, the bottle is also a jewel on the table. The vineyard, the house, the cellar, the bottle, and the daughters Astrid, Elisa, Apolline and Estelle form the name ASTELIA.
