Clos Des Menuts Saint Emilion Grand Cru Jeroboam (3 litres)
The Clos Des Menuts Saint Emilion is a blend of 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc. The grapes are carefully harvested by hand. The grapes are then gently crushed and fermented for a period of no less than 3 weeks in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The wine was then allowed to mature in French oak (50% new and 50% 2nd year) for 18 months. During this time, the wine is kept in the huge monolithic cellars in the rocks below the village of Saint Emilion, all at the perfect temperature of 12°C.
The Clos Des Menuts can be stored for a long time. It is a wine that is round and full, with delicate tannins. A very deeply colored red wine. A powerful nose, very complex with notes of vanilla and toasted bread. Full in the mouth. The wine has a nice structure and a good balance between the fruit of ripe grapes and the vanilla oak tannins. The Clos Des Menuts Saint Emillion Grand Cru with an excellent price-quality ratio and of a great vintage as the Bordeaux connoisseur knows. 91/100James Suckling. The wine comes from one of the best years of the decade, namely 2016.
Winery Clos Des Menuts
The Rivière family, present in Saint-Émilion since 1875, operates a 25 ha vineyard. In the 1950s, Clos des Menuts had only one hectare. Today it extends over 25 hectares near the ramparts of Saint-Émilion, mostly west of the commune. Harvesting is done entirely by hand. A sorting table allows the selection of the best grapes. Fermentation takes place in a traditional way at 28/32 °C with a holding period of about 21 days. During the first few days, two to three dips are made each day of the must to extract the best tannins. The wine is then aged for 18 months in oak barrels, in the vast medieval cellars hollowed out of the rock below the heart of the village of Saint Emilion. More than 9 meters underground, the Clos des Menuts benefits from exceptional aging, at the ideal and constant temperature of 12 °C. The monolithic cellars of the Clos des Menuts, dotted with old grain silos from the Middle Ages, are a much appreciated attraction for the numerous visitors to the medieval city.
