Cigliuti is a small, charming family business in the Serraboella cru that produces great quality Nebbiolo, Barbera and Dolcetto wines. Difficult to get because of the small production and great brand awareness!

The Barbaresco Serraboella comes from a single vineyard located on the southwest and is around 60 years old. The old vines are planted in limestone soils. The mineral composition of the wine is very much reflected in the nose and mouth with subtle notes of sulfur and flint. Those dry sensations (due to the lime) make for a perfect blend of vibrant cherries and wild berries. Then the acids and tannins are released: in the young wine these are still somewhat separate from the wine and therefore prominent. About six years after the harvest, the harmony begins to become clearer and the mouthfeel becomes more refined. Beautiful spices, cocoa, licorice, cherries. undergrowth and cloves pass into a very well structured Barbaresco with a huge finish. In his younger years we recommend decanting the wine.

Vineyard for 2016 Cigliuti Barbaresco Serraboella magnum

Cigliuti has been growing grapes and hazelnuts for centuries. They have been bottling the wine themselves since 1964 and Renato Cigliuti is the fourth generation who now owns the company (now together with his daughters Claudia and Silvia). Cigliuti is located on the Serraboella hill (a cru in the Barbaresco area) in the village of Neive. This hill offers two great terroirs! The dry soil on the southwest of this steep hill, which contains a lot of lime, is ideal for planting Nebbiolo. Barbera is located on the east side of Serraboella, where the soil contains a higher proportion of clay. The family lives on the farm that stands on top of the hill and thus has a magnificent view over the vineyards. The wines are highly regarded internationally among connoisseurs, but are little known to the general public due to the small amount of bottles that are produced: 30,000 per year. In short: very high quality and hard to get!
