A Barbera like this is supposed to be. Not like the many everyday Barberas that are made as mass and for which far too much money has to be paid for, but a carefully made Barbera full of black fruit, wood, cocoa and a hint of vanilla. The 2016 vintage of the Cascina Chicco Granera received 92/100 points from Wine Spectator with the designation Smart buy

A paean of purity and freshness, boasting black currant, black cherry, violet and graphite aromas and flavors. Elegant and intense, with a lingering finish of fruit and mineral.
This elegant Barbera d'Alba is produced with grapes from the vineyard "Granera Alta", which is located on the hills of Castellinaldo and was once the property of the noble Malabaila Canale family. In summary, the Barbera D'Alba of the prestigious Cascina Chicco house is a wine with a great price / quality ratio. The wine is ruby red with a black-violet reflection. Very fruity, especially black forest fruits and plum jam come to the surface and are supplemented with a mix of cinnamon, vanilla, cocoa and tobacco. Full and round, with appropriate fresh acids. This wine tastes great with pasta dishes, game (deer, roe), veal and pork, roasted or not, and with old cheeses.

Cascina Chicco is a nickname, but it is something more: it is the voice of generations past that whispers over the years, and today brings out the traditions and actions of its ancestors. For this reason, the owners have chosen to name the company Cascina Chicco because it connects us with the identity of the place where we were born and grew up. They chose it with respect for the past and with courage to look to the future.
The vines stretch from Canale to Castellinaldo, from Vezza d'Alba to Castagnito. Because the areas all contain different types of soil, the owners have researched which grapes suit which areas best. The winery uses the minimum amount of synthetic treatments possible and carries out regular analyzes to ensure the best quality grapes. The owners aim to communicate the strong support for sustainability through a new basement project. By installing the latest technology in 40kWp solar panels, they take advantage of the generous sunlight from the Roero to perfectly match the plants. The winery not only avoids fossil fuels, but also reduces CO2 emissions by about 30,000 kg per year through the use of solar panels.
