2015 Realm Cellars The Bard

"This blessed plot, this earth, this realm ..." this famous line comes from William Shakespeare's King Richard II, the source of Realm's - and the name of the Estate. Realm Cellars has been making The Bard since 2003. This Cabernet Sauvignon dominated blend as a tribute to the great wines of Bordeaux left-bank. The Bard is a dense, heavy and concentrated wine made from the very best Cabernet Sauvignon grapes from Napa Valley. The composition of the wine varies from year to year although Cabernet Sauvignon always dominates along with smaller percentages of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and / or Petit Verdot. De Bard is a blend of 73% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot ,. The art is blending the grapes from the various (top) vineyards, which they have elevated to Realm's art.

The RealmThe Bard opens immediately with an explosion of fruit with delicious acids and a nice texture. Only around 2000 boxes are made of this great man. The wine is elegant, pure with a dense purple color, sweet black currants and blackberries mixed with licorice and charcoal. It is full-bodied with a layered mouthfeel. The wine can certainly be drunk but will improve even further in the cellar or wine fridge with a few years.
