2015 Quinta do Monte d'Oiro Parcela 24

Owner José Manuel Bento dos Santos, an industrial chemical engineer, has an outspoken love for northern Rhone wines. On a unique piece of landscape 70km north of Lisbon, 15ha of vineyards are ORGANIC tended to grow perfect grapes with an extremely low yield of 20-25hl per hectare. With the support of Grégory Viennos (former chief winemaker at Chapoutier and Cos d'Estournel), exceptionally fine wines are produced that have found their way into royal cellars and the best European and American restaurants.

Monte d' Oiro 'the golden hill' is a reference to the hill on the Quinta that takes on a beautiful golden glow when the sun shines over it. The winery is located in the Appelatie Vinho Regional Lisboa.

The Parcela 24 is the top model of Quinta do Monte d'Oiro. It comes from 60 year old Syrah vines from one vineyard. The vines are clones from the Rhone (Hermitage and Côte Rôtie).

The Parcela 24 was previously known as the Syrah "24" and has matured for 18 months in 40% new French oak. It is tight, intense and youthful and is a wine that you should definitely put away for a few more years but you will be rewarded for it because when the tannins have melted and the hard edges are gone, the powerhouse becomes an elegant wine with a capital E. Full and powerful wine with intense aromas of ripe cassis fruit, vanilla, black pepper and an endlessly long aftertaste. Impressively beautiful!
