Description
This beautiful Barolo Carobric from winery Paolo Scavino was first made in 1996 is the combination of 3 quirky, historic and complex vineyards (Rocche di Castiglione, Cannubi and Bric dël Fiasc). Because of this a new personality is born called Carobric which stands for focus, precision of the elements, intensity and length. Scavino always strives for the purest expression of the terroir - this is also the reason that the vinification and aging of the grapes from the 3 vineyards is all done in the same way so that the specific expression of the vineyards is underlined even more.
Winery Paolo Scavino stands for quality barolos and therefore rightly receives good reviews year after year (Parker, Wine Enthusiast, Vivino). Monica Larner tasted vintage 2014 and was very surprised by this beautiful wine. She gave a 93+ Parker rating and wrote the following: "The 2014 Barolo Carobric is a real stunner. This wine takes us to the very heart and soul of the Barolo appellation. It represents seamless unity between three extraordinary vineyards: the Rocche di Castiglione fruit evidently gives the wine structure and depth, Cannubi and its sandy soils adds floral and fruit fragrances and the fruit from Fiasco lends color and density. Carobric gives it all. "
The Carobric has a nice deep color and is complex and aromatic on the nose (red fruit, flowers, light earthy, spicy, animated and a touch of leather). Nice intense taste with pleasant tannins and acids, nice structure with a long finish. Our advice: leave this wine alone for a few years and then enjoy this wonderful barolo even more.
The wine goes well with red meat (grilled / roasted), lamb, and game dishes.

Issue 243 End of June 2019, The Wine Advocate
The 2018 vintage will be the last edition made of this wine. The Scavino family lost its lease in Cannubi, and the estate wine portfolio is being redrawn as a result. The 2015 Barolo Carobric remains a blend of fruit from Rocche di Castiglione (60%), Cannubi (20%) and Bric dël Fiasc (20%). That blend has been carefully contemplated, and the absence of the Cannubi changes the formula too drastically. Cannubi adds richness and flavor to the blend, while Rocche di Castiglione with its sandy soils adds delicate mineral and light fruit nuances. Bric dël Fiasc offers both power and elegance and is the proverbial glue that keeps harmony between the two sides. This wine was first produced in 1996, and the end of an important chapter in the Scavino family legacy is upon us.
The unfortunate news from the Paolo Scavino family is they lost access to their vineyard site in Cannubi. For that reason, both the Barolo Cannubi and the Barolo Carobric will soon be discontinued.
