Founded in 1974 in the style of a Bordeaux châteaux, Contino CVNE is one of the companies that strictly adhere to traditional vinification in the Rioja. The Viña El Olivo is a special cuvee. The grapes are collected manually and only the best grapes are selected. The Olivio is the most avant-garde with an almost unprecedented quality which has been awarded with many gold medals (the highest award). A dark purple wine with notes of balsamic vinegar, Asian herbs and a cocktail of black fruit. An elegant lover. Top wine. It is a wine that can now be enjoyed with generous aeration at room temperature but can also easily be imposed for 15 years. The 2015 Contino Vina del Olivo has received 93 Parker points.

93/100 R. Parker
95/100 Peñín

Viña del Olivo is a unique vineyard between Logroño and Laguardia. As part of the Contino vineyards, Olivo has a unique microclimate, provided by the meandering Ebro. It is, as it were, on a peninsula. The river protects against excesses such as heat and frost. The elevated southeastern location and the soil of calcareous clay form the basis for the iconic status of this vineyard. Within walking distance of the winery, so no hours spent in uncooled trucks, but directly from the vineyard into the cellar for optimum quality. It is not without reason that Contino was founded after the Bordeaux Château model, quality first. Winemaker Madrazo: "Although El Olivo is not the oldest vineyard from Contino, it has always given great wines or mineral expression."

As the first single-vineyard producer of the Rioja, Contino has a unique position. In the UK, enthusiasts call them "the father of today's Rioja." Authentic in style, modern in approach, quality beyond doubt. Although the domain has a history dating back to the 16th century, the real work starts in the early 1970s when Franco's dictatorship comes to an end. Only then was Contino able to establish itself and to profile itself. Old neglected vines were revived and with investments from the famous CVNE a new style Rioja producer was created that had never been seen before and since then belongs to the top of Spain. A 1er Grand Cru Classé among the Riojas according to Tim Atkin MW.
