2015 Comando G Las Umbrias

The Las Umbrias is a pure Garnacha which has been kept in oak barrels for 14 months. It has a very Chateauneuf-like bouquet of its finest kind with animated scents and dark red fruits (Parker refers here to a Rayas). The taste is medium-bodied and is a real 'chew-wine'. The Umbrias has beautiful notes of red currant, allspice, cloves and woodland. To stay in the words of Parker: This is a character and fantastic wine and should not be missing in the collection of enthusiasts of Grenache grapes (such as a Chateauneuf).

Three young but very famous winemakers - Fernando Garcia (Bodegas Marañones), Daniel Gómez Jimenez Landi (Bodegas Jimenez Landi) and Marc Isart (Bodegas Bernabeleva) - are responsible for the Commando G. with the intention to further the Madrid Region de Grenache grape to develop. All three winemakers produce Top grenaches under their individual label that can compete with the famous Chateaneuf wines, especially if you take a price into account. The area is ideal for the Grenache (high, warm during the day with considerable cooling, considerable lime soil).
