MATARROMERA GRAN RESERVA
Following the wine-growing tradition of his Castilian ancestors, Carlos Moro made his dream come true and founded the bodega Matarromera in Valbuena de Duero (Valladolid) in 1988 with a clear goal in mind: to prepare quality wines with the most advanced technology and the respect traditional cooking methods. At Grupo Matarromera, sustainability is very important and the Matarromera Group was chosen in 2007 by IESE [Institute of Higher Business Studies] as the most environmentally friendly organization in Spain. The winery currently generates more energy than it consumes.
The Matarromera Gran Reserva is only released in the special years 24 months in the best French and American oak barrels, medium to lightly toasted, to only accentuate the already exceptionally intense blueberry aromas. It matures and then rests in the bottle for over three long years, making it a real gem. The grapes for the Gran Reserva come from a single vineyard of the San Román lot. This is vineyard on a steep southern slope of the chalky terraces eroded by the Douro. Refined notes of Indian ink subtly paired with soft notes of clean leather and mild tobacco on the nose. The excellent palate has everything that makes a wine so special. Nice layers, good acidity with a wonderful persistence and elegant sweet and ripe tannins.
ABOUT GRUPPO MATARROMERA
Following the wine-growing tradition of his Castilian ancestors, Carlos Moro made his dream come true and founded the bodega Matarromera in Valbuena de Duero (Valladolid) in 1988 with a clear goal in mind: to prepare quality wines with the most advanced technology and the respect traditional cooking methods. The biggest challenge that Carlos Moro took on was his choice of new barrels for the aging of his wines, an initiative that was new in this region at the time. Another key to Matarromera's immediate success was its excellent vineyards, right in the middle of Ribera del Duero's "golden mile". Today, a quarter of a century later, Carlos Moro continues to design projects and continues to produce more sophisticated wines. Matarromera's focus on quality wines stems from the vineyard itself. Thanks to the work begun by Carlos Moro's ancestors, loving care for the vineyard has been a constant factor. No artifice in the Bodega, but a good wine comes from a top vineyard.
At Grupo Matarromera, sustainability is very important and the Matarromera Group was chosen in 2007 by IESE [Institute of Higher Business Studies] as the most environmentally friendly organization in Spain. The winery currently generates more energy than it consumes. Each bodega of the Matarromera group is a sustainable building and is designed to take advantage of natural lighting, provide optimal insulation and use both rainwater and wastewater effectively.
