Description
The Volnay 1er Cru Cuvée Général Muteau 2014 is a refined red wine from Burgundy, produced by the Hospices de Beaune. This cuvée is auctioned annually during the famous Hospices auction on the third Sunday of November. The grapes for this cuvée come from five carefully selected Premier Cru vineyards in Volnay:
The Village (0.78 ha)
Frémiets (0.23 ha)
Size of Pieds (0.19 ha)
And Caillerets dessus (0.18 ha)
Carelle sous Chapelle (0.16 ha)
After the auction, the wine is often entrusted to renowned wineries, such as Pierre Ponnelle, for further maturation and finishing. During this crucial period, through meticulous care and the combination of different barrels, the complexity and potential of the wine is further developed.
Tasting notes:
Colour: Intense ruby red colour.
Nose: Lively aromas of raspberry with a hint of licorice.
Taste: A firm and dense structure that does not suppress the subtleties of the wine, with a silky texture and a persistent finish. This wine combines well with dishes such as serrano ham, braised chicory, lasagna and veal cutlets.
