2013 Quinta do Infantado Vintage Port

Delicious Organic Vintage Port (2013) from the beautiful winery Quinta do Infantado from the north of Portugal. Quinta do Infantado means 'domain of the prince'. The winery was founded in 1816 by the son of the Portuguese King Jaoa VI, Prince Dom Pedro IV. At the end of the 18th century, the domain was sold to João Lopes Roseira, whose grandson, who is also called João, is in charge. Half of the Quinta consists of old walled terraces, and the newer part is formed by modern patamares. Exceptionally compared to other Port companies, Quinta do Infantado has always used as few pesticides as possible. Keeping the weeds free is done in an environmentally friendly way.

All Quinta do Infantado vineyards are Grade A (meaning: the best in the Douro Valley). The grapes for this Vintage Port were grown in the Serra Douro, Serra de Baixo and Castelos vineyards, which cover 6, 1.5 and 3 hectares respectively. The grapes are harvested exclusively by hand. The fermentation was stopped by the addition of 77% wine brandy, after which the wine was aged for 20 months in 100 year old wooden barrels. The brandy component in the Infantado wines is only 15% which ensures a finer and less scorching finish. Only about 6,100 bottles of this special port were produced, so we can say that you really have a showpiece in your hands.

This truly beautiful port has fine aromas of black fruit and spices on the nose. The taste is fresh, fruity and spicy, with ripe tannins. The port is nicely developed, medium dry and has a long, full, somewhat sweet aftertaste. This port also received several high ratings such as Wine enthusiast: 93/100 points and Parker 90/100

Delicious to enjoy on its own and of course also perfect as an accompaniment to sweet desserts and also with blue cheeses.
