Description
A jewel of a wine this Barolo Rocche dell'Annunziata Riserva from Paolo Scavino, an Italian winery of unprecedented class. The passion and dedication of winemaker Enrico Scavino and the great terroir you can clearly taste in this truly excellent wine. The Rocche dell'Annunziata terroir from the village of La Morra is one of the historic, prestigious vineyards purchased in 1990. The bottom of the vineyard is calcareous with hard sandstone and soft white-yellow sand enclosed in limestone. The vineyard is lit by the sun throughout the day. This allows the shoots to grow to arrange them in the crown. As a result, the grapes are protected against direct sun exposure and the aromas are preserved and the ripeness is delayed. According to Enrico, this vineyard is the most complex and elegant of the entire winery.
The wine is made from 100% Nebbiolo grapes that are picked in early October. Fermentation takes place on stainless steel, after which malolactic fermentation takes place in wooden barrels. This is followed by 12 months of aging on French barriques and another 12 months in large French oak barrels. After bottling, the wine ages for another year in the bottle before it is released for sale.
This Barolo Rocche dell'Annunziata is multi-layered, soft in tannins, delicate but powerful with great allure. That is why this wine is vinified in the best volumes as Barolo Riserva. The wine is profound, generous with lush soft fruit (black currant, cherry, plum) and has a symphony of ethereal aromas with harmonic movements. Characteristics of this beautiful cru are: rose petals, violet, lilac, tar, sweet red cherries, mint and minerals. Silky layers in the texture, extremely graceful but also with a nice intensity.
This wine was estimated by Parker in June 2017 at no less than 96-98 points! Read more about this under the Rating tab. This wine comes into its own after long-term aging in the cellar (drink recommendation 2022-2045).
This wine goes well with beef, lamb, and game dishes such as deer. Can also go with more luxurious pasta dishes.

Paolo Scavino winery is a historic winery in the Italian region of Barolo. It was founded in Castiglione Falletto in 1921 by Lorenzo Scavino and his son Paolo. Agriculture has always been a family tradition and passion of the Scavino family.
Now Enrico Scavino runs the family domain together with his daughters Enrica and Elisa, the 4th generation. He already worked in the winery in 1951 when he was only 10 years old. A young winemaker who has inherited the passion and dedication of his country. Through more than 60 years of experience, his focus has been on investing in Nebbiolo's major cru to demonstrate the uniqueness of each terroir. The working method of this beautiful winery is inspired by the love and respect they have for their terroirs. Their pursuit of purity of expression, complexity and elegance for their wines is also a great source of inspiration. The winery works with the 3 local grapes Dolcetto, Barbera and Nebbiolo.
Paolo Scavino winery owns 29 hectares in the Barolo area, and works on 20 historic Barolo crus in Castiglione Falletto, Barolo, La Morra, Novello, Serralunga d'Alba, Verduno and Roddi. The Scavino family stands out for their meticulous care of the vineyards and their passion for the terroir. They focus on the care of the vines in order to grow ripe and healthy grapes. When making the wine, minimal interventions are pursued to preserve the natural diversity of the terroir.
