2013 Monteviejo Lindaflor La Violeta Malbec

La Violeta is made by Bodega Monteviejo. The wine is the Argentinian counterpart of Château La Violette in Pomerol and is made by winemaker Marcelo Pelleriti, who also makes the wine at Château La Violette (and also at Château Le Gay). He was the first South American winemaker to make a 100 Parker points wine (with the Château La Violette 2010). La Violeta is made with the same methods as Château La Violette, but from 100% Malbec with the character of the Argentinian Uco Valley.

The Malbec grapes come from a Vista Flores vineyard, Tunuyán, Mendoza. Argentina at an altitude of 1,100 meters. Each truss is manually destemmed. Then the grapes are transferred to French oak barrels for a cold immersion at 8°C for 20 days. De La Violeta ages for 24 - 36 months in new French oak barrels followed by 5 years in bottle and is then only released via Place de Bordeaux. 9,200 bottles were made of this La Violate and this 2013 was only released in autumn 2022.

The Monteviejo Lindaflor La Violeta Malbec is full bodied with a very concentrated style. Pomerol-like. Mouth-filling and hedonistic. Intense and deep. Liquorous fruit, but absolutely dry. Plums, Blackberries and Earth - 96 The Wine Independent / 96 Anson / 94 Suckling.
