2013 M. Marengo Brunate Riserva Barolo DOCG
The Brunato Riserva is also called a hidden jewel. From a single parcel of old vines in Brunate that was planted in 1942. The Brunate Riserva Barolo is made from 100% Nebbiolo grapes. The wine is produced in the same way as the other Cru wines - aged 24 months in 25% new oak barrels - but kept for another two years in the bottle. Very few are made of this wine. The Brunate Riserva is deeper and darker than the regular Brunate. There are notes of small berries and the wine is darker than red. Stony and moving, with a hint of dark chocolate. Powerful, serious and sultry with a great depth of taste. The drinking window of this wine is 2020-2045.
Winery Marengo Mario
Marco Marengo makes exciting wines, but is still one of those among the radar producers and as a result, the wines have enormous value. After years of working with his father Mario, he finally left it alone in 2001 when his father died. With his small stock of 6ha, Marco makes some of the most stylish and distinctive wines in the region. From Dolcetto to the fantastic Barolo, Le Brunate - they show the elegance and drinkability that great La Morra wines should define. The Brunate, for which Marco has built a great reputation, is the jewel in his crown. It is one of the largest crus in Barolo and the typical La Morra-style Barolo with its ethereal perfume and finesse tinted with a complex kindness and refined but powerful tannins. Marco owns two plots of vines ranging from 15 to 70 years old. After a soft, slow fermentation and maceration, the wines are aged in oak barriques, with an absolute maximum of 25% new wood, for 24 months.
