Barolo is a wine that requires patience. The long-lasting vinification (note: of well-made Barolos) with a long maceration on the skin gives a concentration of extract and tannins that give it a great ability to age and improve for more than decades. We can characterize the wines of Oddero as pure in style, elegantly not heavily set, with very pure expression of the wines that do justice to grape and terroir and low sulphite levels.
The Riservas are quite impressive and certainly their top hit the Rocche Rivera. This is only made in the good (barolo) years and the maximum production is then only around 3000 bottles. The Barolo Rocche Rivera is very generous in the nose, concentrated with dark fruit which is followed by red plums and purple plums, herbs, leather and cedar and some smoky notes. This single vineyard Barolo is, compared to the other wines of Luigi Oddero, much richer and more expressive.
This is a Barolo that should not be missing in a fine wine collection and we certainly recommend this wine to Barolo enthusiasts.
