The godfathers of the Amarone are without doubt Quintarelli, Garbole and the legendary Romano Dal Forno and belong to the absolute top among the Valpolicella and Amarone wines, so of course Dal Forno should not be missing in the range of Grancru wines. At Dal Frono wine is made in an almost manical way, where it is only about quality and not quantity. Romano knows not only every vine in his vineyard, but even every bunch. At the Fattoria, all bunches of grapes are checked one by one and only the best grapes are selected for their winning. Dal Forno stands for perfection.
The Dal Forno Romano Amerone is one of the very best Amarone in the world. The Amarone della Valpolicellla Monte Lodoletta is a wine that people dream about and is one of those bottles that a wine lover would like to have in his collection. The wine is monumental, magical, decadent and with a unique personality. Does this sound like over the top? As Robert Parker puts it, “It is impossible to exaggerate about the magnificence of this wine”.
The Dal Forno Amarone is made from 60% Corvina, 20% Rondinella, 10% Oseleta, 10% Croatina. The best grapes are picked by hand with the utmost care. After this they are left to dry in wide open spaces for 3 months. The pressing usually starts in mid-December after the grapes have been checked manually. The fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at around 28°C. The tanks are equipped with an extremely careful, computer-controlled process that keeps the contents moving for 15 days after which final maceration takes t2 days. After that process, the wine is poured into new barrels, where the slow fermentation continues for 18 months. In total, the wine remains in the barrel for 36 months. After filtering, the wine is bottled, after which it continues to mature for a long time and is only released when Romano deems the time right.
An exorbitant Amarone. Intense dark red in color with so many layers in the scent… Sultry aromas of cherries, blueberries, currants, raisins, tutti-frutti, chocolate, coffee and tobacco. Full of flavor with a bittersweet attack. Deep and concentrated with ripe fruit, truffle, tobacco and new leather. A masterly aftertaste. A wine in which there is a lot to discover, with an unprecedented aging potential of up to 2055+. This Amarone goes well with roasted meat such as beef, lamb, veal, but also with game such as deer, rabbit and wild boar. The wine also goes well with pastas based on tomatoes or truffles. This wine can also be combined with strong, somewhat older cheeses.
The wine is slowly opening but still has a very bright future ahead of it and this is an ideal candidate for a Coravin . You can try a small nip or glass and then let the wine rest effortlessly for years
