Description
This wine is what you call a personality! This d'Alceo from the renowned winery Castello Dei Rampolla reflects the character of the vineyard. This jewel of a red wine is intense, powerful, warm, refined and elegant. Juicy, with aromas of well-ripened red fruits that perfectly match the delicate notes of cigar, tobacco and spices - a stunning concentration without becoming heavy. The vines for this wine ( Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot ) were planted at the time of the creation of this winery by Alceo di Napoli Rampolla himself, who had only one dream in the mid-1960s: to make a more than good wine. Well, he certainly succeeded. At that time, Alceo could never have predicted the unprecedented heights to which this wine would reach. The clever combination of the right vines on the right soil type and the biodynamic farming methods, developed by Alceo, ensured a promising wine.
For this wine you really have to take your time and enjoy it. Incidentally, storing it for a few years will benefit this wine very much. A character in itself, can be drunk very well on its own, for example on a special occasion. Also tastes excellent with a more luxurious (Christmas) dinner with meat dishes (game) beef, lamb, veal & poultry. Also nice as a conclusion to a dinner with a few fine cheeses.
Castello Dei Rampolla Winery works with great respect and trust in nature. They practice biodynamic agriculture and create the best conditions after which they let nature do its work. All the processes in the cellar are also aimed at preserving the original quality of the grapes as much as possible. Only by working in this way can this great winery let the distinctive character of the terroir permeate the wines. The grapes are always harvested manually and placed in concrete vats to start the maceration process, which generally lasts 25-30 days, of which 7-8 days of alcoholic fermentation. Then soft pressing takes place and a peristaltic pump is used. The wine matures for 12 to 15 months in wooden barrels and another 18-24 months in the bottle. The annual production of the d'Alceo is on average between 6,000 - 12,000 bottles.

Wijnhuis
The Tuscan winery Castello Dei Rampolla is located in Santa Lucia in Faulle. This is located in the valley of the "Conca d'Oro", south of Panzano in Chianti. The land on which the Castello dei Rampolla farm is located has been in the family's possession since 1739. History has been written on this estate over the years, however, the story of the Rampolla family begins in the mid-1960s with the dream of one man, Alceo di Napoli Rampolla, eager to make more than good wine. Subsequently, the first bottles of Chianti Classico were produced in 1975. This was at a time when Chianti Classico was struggling to get the respect it deserved. Alceo then had an idea and followed his intuition. With the help of the great winemaker Giacomo Tachis, he decided to be the first in the area to plant Cabernet Sauvignon and mix it with Sangiovese. This was only the first of the many revolutions of Castello dei Rampolla, just a few years after its inception.
The winery has great confidence in nature. That is why they have been practicing biodynamic agriculture for about 20 years. They are well aware that it is worth taking the time and working with great care when you act with respect for nature. Attention to the soil means that you also understand the needs of that soil. The terroir encompasses the unity and harmony of the 4 elements: earth, air, life and humanity, so they concentrate completely on these 4 elements. They create the best conditions and then let nature do its work. All operations in the cellar are also aimed at preserving the original quality of the grapes as much as possible. Only by working this way can this great winery penetrate the distinctive character of the terroir into the wines. The grapes are always harvested manually and placed in concrete barrels to start the maceration process which generally takes 25-30 days, of which 7-8 days are alcoholic fermentation. Subsequently, soft pressing takes place and a peristaltic pump is used. Finally, depending on the type, the wine matures in wooden barrels for 12 to 18 months.
Vineyard
Every creature of the earth and the air is important for this winery that works according to biodynamic agriculture. This also includes flowers, grass and insects (many of which find them unnecessary or even harmful). In the vineyard, the grass can grow freely, and is sometimes even sown, in order to darken the soil, retain the moisture and also prevent erosion. The only treatments used are based on copper, sulfur and propolis. Over the years, thanks to the use of green manure, the soil has acquired more and more wealth, vitality, balance and fertility, so that the need to cultivate the land could be reduced. Furthermore, the Castello Dei Rampolla vineyards have much more colors than most vineyards because they are filled with flowers and herbs of all kinds. These are also referred to as 'the lungs' of the earth: their roots branch deep into the ground, bringing oxygen and organic matter to a depth that machines cannot reach. To support this process and prevent damage to useful plants, only very light, and partly electric, agricultural machines are used.
