2011 Lopez de Heredia Vina Bosconia Reserva

In the town of Haro is Bodegas López de Heredia Viña Tondonia, the oldest in town and one of the first three of La Rioja and the most consistent and classic house still in existence in La Rioja. The family that founded the bodega is still at the helm. The strategic location of the vineyards, the exceptional quality of the plantations and the varieties used, are perfectly complemented by a special architecture. The wines are true icons of Spanish viticulture.

The most famous wine comes from the Tondonia vineyard (all wines are named after the vineyard). This is where both red and white come from. In addition, there are the Graviona (white) and the Cubillo (red) and the Bosconia vineyard. All wines mature for a very long time in old oak (they employ their own tonneliers) before being marketed after several years of bottle aging. These are wines that can mature for a very long time and have nothing to do with the modern wines aged on French oak.

In one of the most prestigious vineyards in La Rioja comes this red Bosconia from Tondonia. It is a very balanced wine with an incredibly long aging potential. Made from Tempranillo (80%), Grenache (15%) and the rest of Graciano and Mazuelo and aged in oak barrels for five years. This Bosconia is perfectly balanced with a deep ruby red color with shades of orange . The nose is persistent , powerful and with lots of ripe fruit , dominated by the Tempranillo grape. The taste is round , smooth, fresh, full of body and great long lasting aftertaste.
