In the town of Haro is Bodegas López de Heredia Viña Tondonia, the oldest in town and one of the first three of La Rioja and the most consistent and classic house still in existence in La Rioja. The family that founded the bodega is still at the helm. The strategic location of the vineyards, the exceptional quality of the plantations and the varieties used, are perfectly complemented by a special architecture. The wines are true icons of Spanish viticulture.

The most famous wine comes from the Tondonia vineyard (all wines are named after the vineyard). This is where both red and white come from. In addition, there are the Graviona (white) and the Cubillo (red) and the Bosconia vineyard. All wines mature for a very long time in old oak (they employ their own tonneliers) before being marketed after several years of bottle aging. These are wines that can mature for a very long time and have nothing to do with the modern wines aged on French oak.

In one of the most prestigious vineyards in La Rioja comes this red Bosconia from Tondonia. It is a very balanced wine with an incredibly long aging potential. Made from Tempranillo (80%), Grenache (15%) and the rest of Graciano and Mazuelo and aged in oak barrels for five years. This Bosconia is perfectly balanced with a deep ruby red color with shades of orange . The nose is persistent , powerful and with lots of ripe fruit , dominated by the Tempranillo grape. The taste is round , smooth, fresh, full of body and great long lasting aftertaste.

Vineyard for 2011 Lopez de Heredia Vina Bosconia Reserva

In the town of Haro, the López is the Heredia Viña Tondonia, the oldest in the city and one of the first three in La Rioja. The strategic location of the vineyards, the exceptional quality of the plantations and the varieties used, perfectly complemented by a special architecture. The wines are real icons of Spanish wine growing.

The extension of the Lopez de Heredia winery is being made by the Iraqi architect Zaha Hadid. It all started with the need to cover the modern grandfather's booth of the current owners, which they had made for the “Brussels Expo” of 1910 and to commemorate the warehouse's 125th anniversary, which was to be used at the Food Fair in Barcelona

(2002). The new tasting room with space for houses and shops was then placed in the basement, as a link between the past and the future. Faced with this challenge, Zaha Hadid proposes a package from a rectangular shape, transformed into an organic element that can be compared to a carafe. Given the required features of the standard, the structural system of “dry joint” was formed by sharply cutting plates vertically and the exterior finish with gold paint. This new space houses a shopping center and tasting room with an interior that maintains external modulation, with the structural elements that give rigidity to the envelope and reflect the housing of the illuminated shelves, from the products to the warehouse. The connection of this extension with the rest of the warehouse is via a sculptural roof and runs through the patio of the winery, creating a network of metal lines that are part of the new pavement and new access to the facilities of Lopez de Heredia too serve.

Their wines are real 'icons' of the Spanish wine industry. His classicism has been imposed, in markets that place great value on his most special goals, complex and different for everyone different, always consumed bred and older. In them, the grape dominion “Viura” is not very expressive in general, but this success lies in aging and aging in specific conditions. The Viña Tondonia Gravonia are sold after a good education and aging in barrel and bottle. The Gravonia is 100% Viura, dressed in antique yellow gold, with aromas of dried fruits and spices. Expressive in appearance and signature. The white Tondonia is: “Viura” and “Malvasia”, which gives a special touch. In the red Tondonia, several varieties "Garnacha", "Graciano", "Carignan" mount around the king "Tempranillo" known for its great capacity for aging and the agile and easy body. A sober open complex aroma, warm and fleshy on the palate and with an almost eternal finish.
