Domaine Weinbach, also known as the Clos des Capucins, is not only one of the best domains in Alsace, the refined and concentrated white wines are also among the best in the world. By hand, grape is literally picked grape by grape when they are optimally affected by botrytis.

The late harvest, Sélection de Grains Nobles are wines that are among the absolute premiers of dessert wines. These are exceptional wines, remarkable for their great aromatic complexity, sparse concentration and perfect balance.

The Selection de Grains Nobles are obtained by rigorously picking only very selected grapes with noble rot. This is real nectar, dense and balanced. Grains Nobles are extremely rare with a very very small production. Weinbach's 2010 Gewurztraminer Altenbourg Selection de Grains Nobels is unprecedentedly beautiful and unique. Great for now but also great to keep in the basement for another 50 years (don't do that !!). Kummel, floral essences, peaty smokiness like with an Islay whiskey, candied lemon zest and almond extract, with beautiful notes of honey and caramel. once in the mouth the wine is juicy with grapefruit and pineapple with considerable degree of refreshment. This is a rare beautiful dessert wine. Pricey but compare with a Ch D'Yquem. This is certainly so beautiful !!!

Vendanges Tardives applies to exceptional wines that are produced according to the strictest possible criteria. A few days before the harvest, an inspector must first determine whether the grapes have a certain degree of noble rot and sufficient sugars. The wine must then be inspected by a jury before it can receive the mention Vendages Tardives. The Vendanges Tardives are made from noble grapes, which means that only Riesling, Pinot Gris, Muscat and Gewurztraminer may be used. The grapes are picked when they are over-ripe and partly affected by noble rot.

With the Sélection de Grains Nobles, only the affected grapes are used in the wine. The grapes are not selected here per bunch but per grape. Because the grapes have ripened for longer, the sugar content is extremely high. Both the Vendanges Tardives and Sélection de Grains Nobles produce special wines that combine well with desserts, blue molded cheeses but also with foie gras or duck, for example.
