Description
The very large Chateau's who can afford it choose not to sell wines from the largest vintages directly and keep a small part in the cellars of deer Chateau and then choose to offer part of this to their good customers. They also do this at Château Lynch Bages and the 2010 was only released by them in April / May 2023 and we were also 'awarded' to buy a few boxes of this. The wine has a drinking window of 2023-2065+ Unprecedentedly beautiful wine and is now just getting ready to drink.
Wine Advocate gift 97/100 : “Still a saturated ruby-black in hue, the 2010 Lynch-Bages offers up aromas of rich cassis fruit mingled with hints of pencil shavings, loamy soil and cigar wrapper. Full-bodied, deep and muscular, it's rich and layered, with a concentrated core of fruit that's framed by firm, powdery tannins and lively acids. The most brooding, backward Lynch-Bages of the decade and one of the real successes of the vintage, this is a vibrant, tightly wound wine that is still an infant at age 10. Readers with bottles in their cellars might try one now out of curiosity, but this 2010 won't begin to hit its stride until age 20 ”.
James Suckling cool 98/100 : “A wine with great beauty and finesse. Such elegance and ethereal quality for this estate. Full body, with ultra-fine tannins and a juicy delicious finish. Long and beautiful. This is the best Lynch in a long, long time. I love the precision here. Try in 2018”.

Bold, innovative and with a reputation for often being the last to harvest, Jean-Charles Cazes defined Lynch-Bages style in the 1930s. The distinctive character of the wine has earned it a place among the best in Pauillac. It combines structure, finesse and elegance, offering generous aromas in its youth and developing deeper complexities with bottle ageing. The estate's reputation as a top quality wine producer began in 1945 after a series of exceptional vintages. Since then, Lynch-Bages has continued to produce excellent wines, even through years considered difficult in the Bordeaux region. The wine's deep color and tannic backbone have become part of its signature style. Jean-Michel Cazes, grandson of Jean-Charles, has worked hard over the years to develop and refine the supple and smooth structure of the wine. Vintage after vintage, the estate's precise and exquisite winemaking techniques have firmly established Lynch-Bages' reputation for consistent quality.

The founder of Lynch-Bages is the Irish John Lynch who settled in Bordeaux in the 17th century. The village of Bages is home to the château. Since 1933, Lynch-Bages has been run by the Cazes family, an institution in the Médoc and a famous name in the world of wine. Third generation André Cazes was mayor of the municipality of Pauillac from 1947 to 1991. His son Jean-Michel has been running the family domain for several decades. His motto is; "great wine in search of the absolute". Given the appreciation for and status of Lynch-Bages, this 'absolute' has been reasonably achieved. Officially the château has the status of 5th Grand Cru Classé, but unofficially it is counted among the greatest of the Médoc. The other parts of the family business can also be described as very successful. Cordeillan-Bages, winery, hotel and best dining in the surrounding area and restaurant / caterer Le Chapon Fin in Bordeaux are good examples of this. Father André founded the Commanderie du Bontemps de Médoc in the late 1940s and Jean-Michel can call himself the founder of the École du Bordeaux. In short, an eventful family in the world of wine.
