The Vina Tondonia Blanco Reserva comes from their flagship Tondonia vineyard. The white Tondonia Reserva, a blend of 90% Viura and 10% Malvasia, has matured for six years in used barriques during and then years of bottle aging before the wine is released. It has a bright golden yellow color with serious notes of wax (furniture), incense, dried flowers, mushrooms and a chalky, mineral note. The taste is intense, almost pungent with great complexity and balance. The wine still seems incredibly young for its age. What you taste is heavenly, the wine is rich, dry but soft, developed, soft, spicy, a beautiful character! A unique white Rioja and a unique white wine and take a look at this unprecedented drinking window.

There is a whole history prior to making these unique wine(s). It all started in the mid-1800s when the French Negociants moved into the Rioja in search of alternative sources to turn quality grapes into wine, as the phylloxera epidemic had decimated their vineyards. The founder: Don Rafael López de Heredia y Landeta followed in the footsteps of the French and learned winemaking. Don Rafael fell in love with the region and especially the area around Haro, the mythical capital of the Rioja Alta region. He noticed that there was a magical combination of the soil and the climate and that this was the perfect environment for the production of wine. Around 1877, he began designing and building the complex, now known as the López de Heredia bodega (wine house), the oldest in Haro and one of the first three bodegas in the Rioja. Bodegas Lopez de Heredia stands out as one of the few private (family) bodegas of this size. They have been making wine in a classic way for over a century, but they keep up with the times. Love for its own vineyards and strict quality requirements make this a fantastic wine family that markets wonderfully elegant and subtle Riojas. The Gran Reserva is kept in barrel for at least 9 years and still quite some time in the bottle before the wine is allowed on the market. The nose consists of spicy, leather, tobacco, fruit liqueur and something of pastry bakery.
