The Château Latour is one of the most famous wine estates in the world. It is located in Bordeaux in Pauillac. It is located on the border with the Saint-Julien wine region. Château Latour is classified as Premier Grand Cru Classé according to the Bordeaux wine classification system of 1855. The winery covers 60 hectares and grows approximately 78% cabernet sauvignon, 17% merlot and some cabernet franc and petit verdot.

Of the top years, Latour sometimes releases a very limited number of bottles during the primeur campaign and in 2021 it will be the turn of the 2005 vintage. The wine has never left the château before, and has been kept in the cellars of the Château under the best possible conditions for almost 16 years. The year of release is stated on each bottle with a special back label. The 2005 will not be available until the end of 2021

2005 was a very dry, warm and sunny vintage, which caused vine stress in some parts of Bordeaux. harvesting took place from September 26 to October 6 in several cycles. The 2005 Latour is a blend of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, with the remainder Merlot and Petit Verdot. It was Bordeaux's biggest surprise after the wines were tasted decades later. The Latour was relatively closed but the wine is now slowly starting to reveal its personality - and what a stunner! Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, it opens with provocative floral scents of rose and violet over a core of fresh blackcurrants, chocolate-covered cherries and black raspberries with hints of fertile loam, unsmoked cigars and black tea. Medium to full-bodied, firm, grainy and full of muscular fruit, it has an epically long, savory finish fueled by floral notes.

History

Château Latour has played an important role in the history of the region. Throughout the centuries, many old documents about this winery have been preserved in the archives. This unique heritage shows extraordinary stability and continuity in the estate and those who have worked there throughout Latour's long history, which has undoubtedly been an important factor in the exceptional regularity and quality of the wines.

The oldest document with the mention Latour dates from 1331 and is an authorization given by Lord Pons to Gaucelme de Castillon to build a fortified tower in the parish of Saint Maubert. Château Latour then appears in 1378 in Jean Froissart's "Chronicles". This was the time of the 100 Years' War. The "Tour de Saint Maubert" was a fortress to guard the estuary, manned by Breton soldiers for the King of France. After a three-day siege, the Anglo-Gascon army seized the fort and installed a garrison.
